Can you give us a small introduction to your festival?
ArcTanGent is the UK’s only festival dedicated to the very best music from the worlds of math-rock, post-rock and noise rock. Held just outside the amazing city of Bristol on the last weekend in August, you’ll get 3 nights camping, over 70 bands across 4 stages, a silent disco and some of the best food and drink money can buy. 

From what I could find, your festival is relatively new. Why did you start it, and why so late? And why in Bristol. Does this city have something special to offer?
Yes ArcTanGent will be two years old this Summer. However, we have been working on the festival since 2010. It took us exactly 27 months from our first ever meeting to the end of the first ArcTanGent, there is a lot of to plan! We wanted to make our living from running music festivals so we decided to start ArcTanGent. Bristol has a great music scene and really lacks camping festivals (although there are a lot of great city-based festivals there). I’ve always loved Bristol and have spent a lot of time there. Bristol is surrounded by a lot of great countryside and this is where we found the farm for the festival, only a half an hour drive away from Bristol in Somerset. 

Your festival offers a wide range post-rock. Why did you choose this genre or did it naturally grow on you?
ArcTanGent offers a range of music but all of it is doing something different. Non of it fits quite squarely in a genre. I guess this is now what is considered post-rock. We have a lot of post-rock and math-rock on offer. It’s definitely something we’re all into but it’s also something that has been sculpted by what the fans want. We like to take recommendations from fans on who they would like to see at the festival.

I see on the website there are only three main organizers. How can you manage with only 3 people?
Yes, there are only three organisers but we have a great team of people behind us that without them we couldn’t make the festival happen. There are a huge number of people who come and give their time to help build the festival, and we simply couldn’t do it without them.

What does the festival have to offer, apart from the incredible line-up?
There is a silent disco on the Friday and Saturday night. This is always a lot of fun! There’s a huge bonfire as well. We have some great food on site, it is all great quality food at affordable prices. We stock ales and lagers from the Cotswold Brewery, none of your horrible mainstream stuff! ArcTanGent has possibly one of the most friendliest crowds you could wish for. It really is something unique. 

Apart from the big headliners, you also offer a stage to smaller bands. Where do you find them and can bands get in contact with you?
Most if our smaller bands come from recommendation. Or they are huge fans of the festival already that they shout about us a lot, share our line up posters, spread the word and are generally supportive of what we do. Our line up for this year is full but some bands contact us through the website

Op donderdag 28 augustus is er een ‘Early Entry’ programma met terugkerende bands gekozen uit de favoriete line up van bezoekers uit 2013. Headliner op deze avond is And So I Watch You From Afar met support van Three Trapped Tigers, TTNG, The Physics House Band, Baby Godzilla, Nordic Giants, The St. Pierre Snake Invasion en Theo.

Festival organisatoren Goc O’Callaghan, Simon Maltas en James Scarlett hebben bevestigd dat er bezoekers van over de hele wereld zoals Mexico, VS, Canada, Australië, Egypte, China en Europa naar ArcTanGent 2014 afschuimen. 

De ticketverkoop loopt als een sneltrein met een grote kans tot een sold out. De organisatoren raden daarom iedereen aan hun tickets voor ArcTanGent zo snel mogelijk te kopen om teleurstelling te vermijden. Zoals eerder vermeld zijn weekendtickets te koop aan de spotprijs van £70 (85€) op de officiële site www.arctangent.co.uk
