Even voorstellen – Jess Ribeiro - About ‘Summer of Love’
‘Summer of Love’ opens with just two simple piano chords before slowly folding in strings and lightweight percussion, a minimalist soundbed that only amplifies the vulnerability evident in Jess Ribeiro’s vocals. The soft yet grounding instrumentation came courtesy of Jim White’s (Dirty Three, Xylouris White, Cat Power) almost invisible drums, Carrie Webster’s double-threat violin and viola, and piano by Nick Huggins, who also lent his hand to recording the track.
‘Summer of Love’ was first written during the heartbreaking Victorian summer of 2019-2020 at a solar powered shack on the Great Ocean Road down past Gadubanud Country/Apollo Bay, with her friend and musical collaborator Dave Mudie (Courtney Barnett, Super American Eagles). Ribeiro shares, “We used all the solar power trying to record demos, so it ended in us using torches and a candle for the rest of the night as well as being terrified that the feral pigs were going to get us.”
‘Summer of Love’ was originally born as an 80’s pop song recorded with producer John Castle (Vika & Linda, Cub Sport), before a second life as a Velvet Underground-inspired rock number made alongside Mick Harvey (The Birthday Party, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds). What you hear is its third and final incarnation, and for Jess Ribeiro, the song’s true form: capturing the rawness and vulnerability she felt around the reopening of a much-publicised missing person’s case that marked the end of her childhood. Ribeiro shares, “This song has undergone many evolutions but this version suits where I’m at. It's stripped back, vulnerable, reflective.”

The music video for ‘Summer of Love’ was filmed and directed by Nick Mckk who is well known for his collaborations with musician Julia Jacklin, RVG and Rolling Blackouts.
Nick and Jess made the music video spontaneously after plans changed due to cast members getting sick.
Ribeiro shares: “Nick is one of my favorite people to work with, he’s intuitive, open and empathetic.”

Little Seeker - Sirens
Little Seeker is een indiefolkband opgericht in 2023 door Eliseo Renteria, een singer-songwriter uit Santiago del Estero, Argentinië. Hun muziek combineert traditionele ritmes en instrumentatie uit Renteria's geboorteplaats met een hedendaagse feel. Een pure stem, betoverende harmonieën en teksten geïnspireerd door het boek “The Power is Now” van de Duitse auteur Eckhart Tolle, een autoriteit op het vlak van spiritualiteit, - Oprah Winfrey is fan ! - creëren een unieke en meeslepende ervaring.
Renteria woont sinds 2015 in Antwerpen en is voormalig leerling van de befaamde componist Wim Henderickx die in 2022 overleed. Little Seeker combineert folk, rock en experimentele genres om persoonlijke transformatie te inspireren.
Hun EP, ‘Sirens’ die begin 2024 zal verschijnen bevat 4 songs met prachtige en beklijvende melodieën die blijven hangen lang nadat de laatste noot is verdwenen. De teksten, geschreven in een mix van Engels en Spaans, verkennen de universele thema's liefde, angst en zelfontdekking met veel diepgang en gevoel. Kortom een indrukwekkend visitekaartje van deze veelbelovende band.

Even voorstellen - Live album van David Ronaldo & The Dice - Burning (A)Live
Na 3 studio albums was het voor David Ronaldo & The Dice tijd om een LIVE album te brengen. De redenen lagen voor de hand: ze zijn een erg goede liveband, getuige daarvan hun plaats als finalist in de recente Belgian Blues Challenge en de lovende reacties van zowel pers als publiek. Het is dan ook geweldig om die live ervaring te vereeuwigen en te kunnen delen, met de imperfecties die bij een live-optreden horen én met het enthousiasme van het publiek op de achtergrond.
De opnames vonden plaats in De Klinker Club in Aarschot, die volgens de aanwezigen nog nooit zo goed geklonken heeft! Geluidsman Raf Devlieghere verzorgde niet alleen de klank in de zaal, maar ook de opnames. Daar ging Dirk (Studio Fandango) mee aan de slag, met als resultaat: een album met maar liefst 16 live gebrachte nummers. Zonder overdubs of gedoe.

David Ronaldo & the Dice zijn graag geziene gasten in clubs en op festivals. Hun albums krijgen lovende kritieken en vooral live wordt hun Southern roots-rock georiënteerde Americana sound ten zeerste gesmaakt. De herkenbare, hese stem van David is al enkele jaren hét handelsmerk van de band. De sfeer van hun muziek varieert van donker, onheilspellend bluesy tot funky en speels, waarbij de gitaren van het duo Verbinnen-Lekenne altijd centraal staan. En met multi-percussionist Marco Epis in de gelederen worden de drums al eens vervangen door conga’s en djembées, waardoor ook (semi-) akoestische concerten tot de mogelijkheden behoren (David Ronaldo & The Dice Almost Unplugged).

Brace yourselves for an enchanting musical journey as Newmoon, the acclaimed shoegaze band from Antwerp, unveils their third studio album Temporary Light, set for release on March 22, 2024 through [PIAS] Recordings (EU) and Manifesto Records (US).
They share the first single Fading Phase. Dreamy, hypnotic and ethereal with blooming guitars and gracefully haunting melodies Newmoon sent the listener in a state of mesmerizing bliss.
“While writing this album I got a new guitar”, singer-guitarist Bert Cannaerts explains, “It was an older Rickenbacker from the 90’s with loads of wear and tear on it. Definitely a guitar that already had a great life before it got into my hands. The main riff of “Fading Phase” was the first thing I wrote on that guitar and the whole song just kind of wrote itself as soon as I had that riff. It was one of those magical moments where everything just falls into place.”
Temporary Light is full of those magical moments. It weaves a sonic tapestry that harks back to the band’s roots, yet retains a fresh approach that keeps their music alluring. Blending airy vocals with lush guitars, Newmoon creates an immersive sound that sweeps listeners off their feet into a striking world that feels distant yet familiar at the same time.
Joined by new drummer, Conor Dawson, this third album marks an exciting chapter in Newmoon's evolution. The band's signature feel for grand yet delicate melodies are enriched by Dawson's rhythmic finesse, adding a layer of depth and musicality to their songs.
After a more melodic approach on their previous release Nothing Hurts Forever, Newmoon returns to embrace their abrasive, dreamy and ethereal sound on Temporary Light. Eight tracks that sweep from gentle melodies and catchy hooks to plush walls of guitars and pummeling drums.
“Thick layers of guitars always felt natural to us and are kind of our main thing. We wanted to explore some ideas that have been in the back of our mind ever since we started this band,” says Bert Cannaerts. “As soon as we let go of trying to write a specific type of album, the songs grew organically and everything just clicked.”

Tot een paar jaar geleden was Metejoor nog gewoon de enthousiaste leerkracht Joris Van Rossem uit Vosselaar. Ondertussen is hij ontzettend populair en al enkele jaren niet meer weg te denken uit de Vlaamse hitlijsten. In 2021 verscheen Metejoor’s debuutalbum met de monsterhits “1 Op Een Miljoen”, “Rendez-Vous”, “Ze Meent Het” en “Dit Is Wat Mijn Mama Zei”. Het album is intussen platina en al twee jaar aanwezig in de Ultratop Albums Top 200.
Sinds kort is er het tweede album ‘Joris’, een heel persoonlijke plaat. De leading track “Eigen Schuld” is een echte power ballad en gaat tot in het diepste van je ziel. Hoe vind je je plaats in de wereld? Deze even uitgestrekte als duizelingwekkende vraag suggereert natuurlijk miljoenen antwoorden. De antwoorden die STACE geeft, lopen als een rode draad door haar tweede EP. Intiem en bij uitstek persoonlijk, trekt 'Overblue' de lijn tussen extreme emoties. Soulvol, sensueel en genotzuchtig plaatst dit project zich veerkracht in het hart van een hernieuwde ruimte voor expressie. In harmonie, in staat om haar melancholie te temmen, werpt de in Brussel geboren zangeres een blik op het licht door middel van zonnige, hoopvolle melodieën.
Waar de songs van STACE ooit een in een vacuüm gemaakte muziek weerspiegelden, opent Overblue zich naar de wereld, naar ontmoetingen en naar de veelvuldige dialogen tussen de instrumenten. Met een diploma in antropologie observeert de in Martinique geboren artieste de tijd met een verhoogd inlevingsvermogen en een aangeboren gevoel voor interpretatie. Ondergedompeld in haar eigen ervaring overwinnen nummers als "Flood" en "Underwater" de druk en de golven van de ziel om het moment te ervaren, het geluk van het heden. Hydrogen Sea started out in 2012 as the brain and love child of the duo Birsen Uçar and PJ Seaux. Forced by (but also pretty much enjoying) the solitude during the pandemic, Birsen and Pj huddled together in their studio and started to write and demo their 'Creature Comfort' songs. It was an attempt to find some hope, softness, and joy in the slow apocalypses we live through. The new music was Birsen and PJ’s way of relieving their own stress and soothe their nervous systems. In February 2023, after having written and recorded the bulk of the songs in the solitude of their home studio, Birsen and PJ called in the multifaceted skills of Luuk Cox. He was welcomed into their creative process and produced and mixed the album, making it sound effortlessly bright, crisp, and filled with color.
With this album, PJ and Birsen want to stimulate all senses. In the limited first batch of the vinyl edition, they’ve included fragrant incense paper that will stimulate your sense of smell and aims to bring you comfort. The rich and creamy texture of the album cover will also come to life in a tactile ultra limited 3D edition that will be soft to the touch.

Virgin music news – Superster Rema gaat nieuw tijdperk in met EP Ravage
Rema deelt de nieuwe EP RAVAGE. Hij sluit het tijdperk van Rave & Roses af (zijn debuutplaat uit 2022) en gaat een nieuwe fase in als artiest. Op RAVAGE wakker Rema zijn innerlijke vlam aan: de muziek wordt gevoed door drive, passie en zijn doelen.
Rema brak in de zomer van 2022 internationaal door met de hitsingle Calm Down. De Nigeriaanse superster is op missie om Afrobeats te delen met de wereld en verovert de harten van miljoenen luisteraars. Hij breekt onderweg ook records: Rema haalde als eerste Afrikaanse artiest een miljard streams op Spotify en is nu de langst genoteerde Afrikaanse artiest in de Billboard Top 100. Wij denken 'the survival of the fittest' om... naar 'meer kracht aan de zwaksten' en nemen graag het woord op de tong om iédereen een stem te geven in de maatschappij. De evolutie bracht ons tot een maatschappij waarin 'honger' al lang de basisbehoefte overschreden heeft. We hongeren elke dag... naar meer.
Onze honger om electropunkpoëzie te maken nam in ons eerste levensjaar alvast alleen maar toe. En dat werd de rode draad doorheen onze debuut ep 'Honger', die verschijnt op 3 november 2023.
Honger naar meer: meer macht ('Hamartia'), meer consumeren ('Zelfbeeld Van Denaldie'), meer gedeelde verantwoordelijkheid ('Desinteresse'), meer bevestiging ('Traan'), meer van het échte leven ('Ik beken' en 'Slapeloosheid')...
Punkpoëzie voordgeduwd door stuwende beats, electro en diepdonkere baslijnen over herkenbare thema's, zit verwerkt in de 6 nummers op onze eerste ep, waarvan 'Zelfbeeld Van Denaldie', 'Huidhonger' en 'Hamartia' reeds als single verschenen.
Op de ep vind je ook één track terug dat we nog nooit live speelden en wellicht ook nooit live zullen brengen ('Slapeloosheid').

Biografie
Nel Mertens (tekst, spoken words) en JP De Brabander (alle instrumenten, mix, master, productie) hadden elkaar al eerder ontmoet, maar nog nooit op het podium of in de opnamestudio.
Twee jaar geleden werkten ze voor het eerst samen voor This Can Hurt, de band waarvan JP componist, gitarist en producer is. Nel voorzag één van de nummers ophun semi-akoestische ep 'A Deeper Shade Of Blue' van tekst en stem. Dat beviel hen wel, dus schreven ze samen nog enkele nummers.
'Punkpoëzie in droomkamers' prijkte er op de affiche van hun eerste optreden in Trefpunt (Gent), als voorprogramma van de Gentse newwaveband Fragment. Punkpoëzie, want dat was wat Nel schrijft. Maar zo klonk het nog niet. Dus enkele weken voor dat optreden, begon het duo van een blanco blad en schreef gloednieuwe nummers, waarmee ze voor het eerst op 5/11/2022 op de planken stonden in een uitverkocht Trefpunt.
Het samen creëren vond al gauw een hoog tempo. Met beats in pittig, soms grauwe electrotracks. Woorden over het dagelijkse leven in al zijn absurditeit. Over maatschappelijke gevoeligheden, over de liefde. En vooral over het ego. Haar ego, zijn ego, hun ego, jullie ego. Teksten die zouden kunnen aanzetten tot denken, zelfs.
Dankbaar voor de reeds vele podiumkansen die ze kregen in hun eerste levensjaar als muzikaal duo, kijken ze - na bijna exact één jaar na hun eerste optreden - uit (of ja... hongeren?) naar de voorstelling van hun eerste ep en de daaropvolgende optredens!
Live mag je een dansfeestje van dit duo verwachten. Met Nel die haar woorden het publiek in gooit en JP die ze vooruitstuwt met baslijnen versmolten met electro.

Egyptian Blue's debuutalbum A Living Commodity is verschenen. De groep uit Brighton maakt broeierige, bijtende gitaarmuziek en wordt door collega's naar voren geschoven als één van de beste nieuwe rockbands in het land. Joe Talbot (IDLES) omschrijft de groep als "fucking sick" en koos Egyptian Blue als zijn favoriete act voor het BBC Introducing Stage op Glastonbury 2022. Yannis Philippakis (Foals) is superfan/mentor en nodigde Egyptian Blue uit als support voor de arenatours van Foals in 2022.
In België krijgt Egyptian Blue airplay bij Willy en Studio Brussel. Ook bij de Britse radio's en pers zijn ze fan: DIY, Dork, Clash, Steve Lamacq (BBC Radio 6), Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), ..

Belgian baroque folk poet Loverman today announces his debut album, the aptly titled Lovesongs, set for release through [PIAS] Recordings on October 27. The album was written by Loverman and produced by Pieterjan Maertens & Jo Francken (known for their work with fellow Belgian prodigy Tamino and French singer Zaz) and Loverman himself.
For James de Graef love is the fundamental building block of his artistic expression, as his stage name and debut album title explicitly attest. Yet while Lovesongs by Loverman will leave the listener in no doubt that love is all, the emotional embers at the heart of each of the record’s 11 songs – and the warm, intimate and candid atmosphere that pervades across them – also ensure that all of love is here to be experienced.
“It's been informed not only by heartbreak but by love in all its different shapes, forms and exchanges,” the Anglo-Belgian singer-songwriter and producer explains of the melancholic yet hopeful core at the heart of Lovesongs. “Heartbreak is the base, but the record is just as much capturing the joy and the energy you get from communing with your loved ones and your friends in an ecstatic celebratory environment, or the love you feel for humans in general. People you've never met, but when you see their tenderness and understanding it creates moments of real beauty. Like when you see on the news people engaging and helping after disasters or hardship. It touches that spirit of love too.”

The restless single Would (Right In Front Of Your Eyes), out on all digital platforms today, talks about the pitfalls of love. Would is an exciting piece of dusty desert folk, proving there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Loverman’s songwriting skills. Showing a softer, gentler side on previous outings as ‘Candyman’ and ‘Into The Night’, on this new track the singer sounds fired up and adrenalized.
Backed with vocals by his creative (and real life) partner Daisy Ray, the pair form the perfect present-day answer to Bonnie & Clyde or Johnny & June Carter Cash.
“It’s about the things you would have liked to have said, you would have liked the other to have said or done”, James explains, “in ‘Would’ I mourn over not speaking my mind out of fear of hurting. Pity and fear ultimately killing love. The very thing you tried to protect out of so-called love dissolves, disappears. And as a final added reflection there is the same behavioural mechanism mimicked by society, smiling insincerely, regardless of your insincerity. There isn’t the will to invest in conflict. The song realises this and resents this. Seeking authenticity in conflict, it ends on a hopeful note. Not all is lost, as long as we commit to keep on trying, to keep touching, to confront, keep holding on, making our cries be heard once more. For it’s never too late to start again. To start over today.”
On the back of previous singles Into The Night and Differences Aside Loverman has already strong support from BBC6 Music in the UK, FIP in France and Radio 1 in Belgium, making it to the top of their VOX listener's chart. Loverman will play a series of club shows in Belgium and is also added to this year’s line-up for MaMa Music & Convention in Paris. In September he will support Tamino on his tour in Turkey.
