Live Nation concert – Aurora

Live Nation concert – Aurora
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EARTH? PART 1.

In 2022 bracht ze haar laatste album 'The Gods We Can Touch' uit.

Het nieuwe album van Aurora, 'What Happened to the Heart ?', zal binnenkort verschijnen via Universal Music.

Suikerrock 2024 – 2 augustus t-m 4 augustus 2024 - Girlpower in The Palace en op The Cube!

Geschreven door

Suikerrock 2024 – 2 augustus t-m 4 augustus 2024 - Girlpower in The Palace en op The Cube!

Want ‘Who run the world?’ Exact!

Back to Black’-zangeres Tsar B.

The Palace
In maart kwam eindelijk hun highly anticipated debuutalbum ‘Save It For Later’ uit.
The Cube

Pias news – Arab Strap - "Strawberry Moon", nieuwe single

Geschreven door

Pias news – Arab Strap - "Strawberry Moon", nieuwe single

"Lyrically, it's probably the most personal song on the album", says Aidan Moffat. "It's about a period when I wasn't doing very well, both mentally and physically. I was walking with a cane and in pain most of the time, and drowning my sorrows too, trapped at home and watching the phases of the moon through a window. The moon always seems to pop up in my lyrics, and the song is a sort of secular hymn in praise of her constant change. She's always a comfort, always hopeful, and always makes me smile".
The song's video, created with David Arthur - who worked with Moffat previously on the film "Where You're Meant To Be" -, features Moffat and his colleague Malcolm Middleton as priest and werewolf in a chase across the city of Glasgow, and is the first time the duo have fully appeared in a video together in almost 25 years. "Aye, it's been a while", says Moffat. "So we thought we should go all out - costumes, make-up, special effects, acting, mobility scooter and all".

De indie rock / alternative pop band levert met "I'm Totally Fine With It - Don't Give A Fuck Anymore", 'their most sonically expansive album', weer een waar meesterwerkje af. Het duo Malcolm Middleton en Aidan Moffat, met hun jarenlange productionele metgezel Paul Savage (The Delgados), staat wederom garant voor 12 nieuwe pareltjes 'with a mix of intoxicating melodies and a threatening intensity'. Arab Strap's gelijk vertrouwd aanvoelende en Schotse half gesproken, half gezongen songs bevatten dit keer wat extra pit, beats en urgentie (met veel maatschapplijke thema's) en 'furthers the band's transformation from swooning, lo-fi, slow-core, post-rock romantics to raging, alt-pop chroniclers'.

Unday records news - Bluai releases a music video for their melancholic and heartfelt indie-folk track 'Not The One'

BLUAI launches the third single from their debut album today. 'Not the One' might be our favourite song on the record, and it comes with this video the band shot during the 'Save it Later' recording sessions. Sing along like no one is listening.
The follow-up to My Kinda Woman is a heartfelt and melancholic indie-folk song that gets lodged in your brain before you know it. You know those songs that you find yourself singing even just by reading the title? Well, this is one of those. While Not the One may seem like a typical love song at first glance, it delves into the realm of friendship. The song contemplates how friendships, too, are not immune to high expectations and other complexities. According to singer and songwriter Cath Smet, the song originated in a relaxed jam session, with the words flowing effortlessly.

On their debut album Save It For Later, BLUAI embarks on a road trip through the sonic landscapes where Big Thief, Pinegrove, Haim, and Alabama Shakes reside. After winning the three leading Belgian music awards (Humo's Rock Rally, De Nieuwe Lichting, and Sound Track), the trio is expanding its horizons.
Save It For Later is a record like a Polaroid picture. Belgian songwriter Catherine Smet captures the memories of her youth in lyrics that carry a perfume of Americana, country pop, and indie folk. The band joined forces with producer Willem Ardui (blackwave.) for Save It For Later. Their instruments were expanded with banjo and lap steel. Engineer Tobie Speleman received 'Nashville tuning' as a briefing. BLUAI thus shifts the focus from indie rock to Americana and breaks open the band's frame of reference. In its first weeks, their debut was greeted with glowing reviews, sold-out release shows, and over half a million streams.

DE BEREN GIEREN - WHAT ELUDES US
Two and a half years after their acclaimed last release 'Less Is Endless', De Beren Gieren ("The Bear Vultures")  have finished their seventh full album. What Eludes Us is an ode to what escapes us and what we consciously want to look away from.
For this new full album, the band left aside the unimaginable beauty of the Norwegian fjords and crawled into a dusty recording studio in Bergen harbour. They did so with the celebrated and mysterious producer Jørgen Træen (a.o. Jaga Jazzist), who silently watched over the imperfections and interference as a guiding force behind the adept playing of the electro-acoustic jazz trio.
The result turns out to be compelling music with deceptive rhythms, clear melodies and uninhibited electronics in a way that also managed to surprise them themselves. With De Beren Gieren, it is clear that there is still gold to be struck from the classic jazz piano format. Instead of changing direction, the band resolutely chooses to dig deeper.

What Eludes Us is out via Sdban Ultra

Tracklist
1. De Beren Gieren - Papir Freedom
2. De Beren Gieren – Mimic
3. De Beren Gieren - A Loving Stumbler
4. De Beren Gieren - Very Important vs. Nothing
5. De Beren Gieren - The Feline
6. De Beren Gieren - I'll Explain Later
7. De Beren Gieren - The Houses
8. De Beren Gieren - Light and Illusions
9. De Beren Gieren - What Eludes Us

About De Beren Gieren
De Beren Gieren is a post-contemporary jazz trio in which minimalism and bursting energy go hand in hand. It may be no coincidence that this band is based in Belgium, the home ground of surrealism and techno. De Beren Gieren consists of musicians highly active in the European music scene, but it is within this band their versatility flow freely. Its music is multi-layered, improvised and visionary. Corresponding acts could be Visible Cloaks, Radiohead, Erik Satie and Jon Hassell. Well, expect at least Beren music.
Pianist Fulco Ottervanger composes most of the tunes, shining a childlike clarity, yet without ever pointing to a specific genre. It challenges the band to conceive a never-heard combination of sounds and parts supporting those sing-along melodies, often resulting in cinematic structures with a kaleidoscopic quality.
Bass player Lieven Van Pée and drummer Simon Segers, join Fulco in a shared effort of control and letting go, tying the three together in a unique band. Live concerts of De Beren Gieren are an ongoing adventure full of beauty, dynamics and group interaction.
De Beren paved their own path since 2009. They started off as a quirky acoustic neder-jazz trio, naturally evolving to the subtle acoustic-electronic realm of their latest albums 'Dug Out Skyscrapers' (2017), 'Less is Endless' (2021) and the upcoming 'What Eludes Us' (2024), for which they worked together with the Norwegian producer Jørgen Træen.
De Beren Gieren have played with external guests such as Ernst Rijeseger, Louis Sclavis and Susana Santos Silva, giving them international acknowledgement.

Even voorstellen – Crumb – Amama op 14 juni 2024
Crumb "AMAMA" 14/06 (crumb records/konkurrent)

“AMAMA” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUk9vYUc-9w

New York psych-pop band Crumb return with AMAMA, their most carefree and open-hearted album to date. A soundscape full of playful and patchwork experimentation — glitchy pitch-shifted vocals, cell phone recordings, nautical blips, sax mouthpiece solos, blasted drum samples, and piano strings dampened with Silly Putty — AMAMA continues to deepen the band’s hypnotic sound in a cohesive line back through 2021’s Ice Melt, 2019’s Jinx, and breakout EPs Locket and Crumb. Without a doubt, AMAMA is Crumb — singer and multi-instrumentalist Lila Ramani, keyboardist and saxophonist Bri Aronow, bassist Jesse Brotter, and drummer Jonathan Gilad — at their most animated.

Buoyed by Ramani’s songwriting, at turns poetically abstract and directly confessional, AMAMA culls the strange encounters from Crumb’s touring years, tracing the dizzying path of a group that’s been in movement for nearly a decade. “Crushxd” is an ecstatic requiem for a turtle flattened under the tires of a tour van; “(Alone in) Brussels” finds Ramani in forced isolation in a distant city. On “The Bug,” we’re at a pit stop in a seedy motel, where a critter’s bite leaves a nagging feeling: “It’s always on my mind / it’s just always on my mind,” Ramani repeats over a creeping groove as she wanders the place at night. On “Side by Side,” perhaps the most candid track on AMAMA, frenetic percussion and disorienting, layered synth envelop Ramani as she considers the personal sacrifices she’s made along the way.

Even as it explores transient stops and fraught encounters, AMAMA features some of Crumb’s most vulnerable, tender searches for organic connection. “Home is what I want and what I need,” Ramani sings on the clear-sighted opener, “From Outside a Window Sill”—which samples a police radio scan about a flock of geese crossing a bridge in Gowanus, Brooklyn, where Ramani grew up. The title track, “AMAMA,” is an upbeat and hopeful homage to Ramani’s grandmother, her namesake, who sings in Malayalam in the opening sample. The two voices, Lila’s and Leela’s, separated by language and place, intertwine as if on a spotty long-distance call in what is the most direct love song of Crumb’s repertoire. On the album’s closer, “XXX,” laden with distorted, industrial sounds, we finally find respite—a house shared between two lovers, a safe place. In the last moments, Ramani asks: “Isn’t this as good as it can get?”

AMAMA exists at the crossroads of psychedelia, pop, jazz, and rock, and cements Crumb as a band uniquely their own. Released independently on Crumb Records and produced alongside Johnscott Sanford and Jonathan Rado in Los Angeles, AMAMA is an incandescent statement about searching for solid ground, connection, and clarity in a life

AMAMA is dedicated to my namesake, my grandmother, whose voice is sampled throughout the song. A video sent to me over WhatsApp of her singing originally inspired the melody and ethos of the song, from which I built its glitchy, warped foundation. It’s a love song! My partner and Crumb's creative director [Abraham El Makawy] directed the video, which combines his family's archival footage of the neighborhood we grew up in, home videos from the band, as well as drawings from 702 fans who helped us animate the last part of the video. The song is the title track and spiritual center of our new album.”

POND ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM STUNG!, OUT JUNE 21 VIA SPINNING TOP RECORDS

NEW SINGLE “(I’M) STUNG” POND - (I'm) Stung (Official Video) (youtube.com)

06/10 La Grand Salon, Botanique - Brussels, BE

Prolific and beloved psychedelic rock band Pond has today announced Stung! which will be released June 21, 2024 via Spinning Top Records. The announcement of the Perth band’s tenth album arrives alongside new single “(I’m) Stung,”

“I wrote most of this while mowing someone’s lawn. I went home and put my fingers on the piano and pretty much played the base of it first go. This is a very rare and special treat and buoyed me for weeks. It’s funny because I had a mad crush on someone, and they dropped me like a sack of shit and this song just flew down and clocked me right in the forehead and I felt totally better. Then Gin and Gum added all their magic - cool sounds, passing chords..

It's about being totally pathetically stung by someone and just having to be cool with it being unrequited. Being resilient, accepting that you are a bit of a goose, but life goes on.”

‘(I’m) Stung’ arrives alongside a video shot in Western Australia by Chris Adams. “We went to Lancelin, one of the most stereotypically Western Australian looking places in Western Australia, armed with a super 8 camera, 12 tubes of silver body paint and a rock eisteddfod wardrobe,” Pond say of the visualiser. “Nothing but the blistering heat and dehydration and a battalion of legendary holidaymakers in ATVs stood between us and cinema history. Our friend Chris Adams also put on his little “filmic auteur” cap and carried our shit around while we cavorted among the dunes dressed like a knock off NSYNC. Omg and the bee!! The bee obviously makes it. Nick kind of lost his mind in the endless whiteness and started fearfully battling the beast in the sky. Probably all the paint fumes.

The last four Pond albums have been showcases of tidiness and brevity, 10 ideas always tucked into 40 minutes or so. But on Stung!, they gleefully, madly, and willfully lean into double-LP largesse, tapping the spirit of Tusk and Sign ‘O’ the Times by funneling 14 songs into the most unfettered and splendid hour of their recording career. A band for the better part of two decades, Pond has accepted (with no small joy or relief) that they are no longer beholden to shifting expectations of cool. That idea has empowered them, allowing them to play precisely what they want, to not move toward any goal but being themselves.

It takes more effort for Pond to make a record these days—not musically, of course, but logistically. They’re all adults with relationships, children, professions, hobbies, side-projects, or some mix of them all. (To wit, Allbrook and Jay Watson, or GUM, both released solo albums last year.) They began making Stung! in piecemeal fashion, then, a member or two showing up at the little studio in Watson’s back yard to work on a new idea. They’d tinker joyously and endlessly in Watson’s little workshop, trying a panoply of machines and widgets to get the most interesting sounds. What’s more, they were able to let the songs they had sit over time, so that Pond’s deeply democratic process could not only siphon and improve the best ones but also tease out what they might be missing for this very full double-record.

At last, they realised they ran the risk of being stuck in this phase—creation, adjustment, addition—forever. The whole quintet decamped to Dunsborough, the scenic surfing hub on Australia’s southwestern coast where a friend had recently finished a spacious and state-of-the-art studio. Allbrook would run near the shore each morning. They’d all swim during the day, then record until deep in the night. They left most of their ancillary gear at home, forcing them to drill down on the songs, ideas, and sounds they already had, to make them better without getting carried away in endless possibility. After all, after nearly a year of writing and workshopping, they had plenty of material, the makings of a set more expansive than any previous Pond album.

The title Stung! began as a joke in Pond, a reference to having a crush on someone or something that they began to use so often they simply had to make it the name. They still laugh when they hear it now, a silly inside wisecrack suddenly open to the outside world. But it’s kind of a credo, too: despite the bruises, the callousness, and the suffering, they remain stung with music, with the idea of making songs that feel just so and doing it together, as friends. And they are stung with the world, too, even when it bites back. “Well, I’m stung/the bells been rung,” Allbrook sings during the winning title track. “If love’s a game, then I guess you won.” Ten albums in, though, Pond seems to be having more fun playing now than ever before.

Following a run of dates in Australia with Queens of the Stone Age this winter and a run of US shows in the spring, Pond’s world tour will arrive in Europe in September. The band will stop in eight UK cities including London, where they headline the distinguished Scala on 3rd October.
