Even voorstellen - Nick Hodgson Introduces New Band, Everyone Says Hi

April 24 Shares Debut Single "Brain Freeze” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKMybUSh_gI

Nick Hodgson is very excited to introduce his new band, Everyone Says Hi.
The songwriter/producer, who wrote a plethora of hits as the drummer of Kaiser Chiefs including the likes of I Predict A Riot, Oh My God and Ruby, formed the band last year and introduces it with a first single, Brain Freeze.
Brain Freeze was written in Leeds, recorded in London, and is the first introduction to a debut album due for release later this year via Chrysalis Records. It features a guest appearance by The Zutons’ Abi Harding on saxophone.
Everyone Says Hi brings together musicians Pete Denton, Glenn Moule, and Ben Gordon (founding ex-members of The Kooks, The Howling Bells, and Liverpool’s The Dead 60s respectively), alongside Leeds based guitarist Tom Dawson, and Nick. The band’s name is lifted directly from a David Bowie song of the same title.

Nick Hodgson on forming Everyone Says Hi and writing Brain Freeze:
“I wanted to hire a studio and record the songs as live as possible and as quickly as possible. I had played with most of the band members before on tour a few years ago when I made a solo album so I knew they were great and also that we could collaborate. We worked together on the songs and in rehearsals we hammered them out and made them as tight as possible, it felt amazing to go back to my band roots and work like this, shaping the songs in real time in rehearsals. It felt very 2003.
It does feel like starting from scratch again, the music landscape has changed a lot but essentially I’m a musician and making music is all I’m any good at and walking on stage is something I really miss. When I do walk on stage I get a very familiar feeling, it feels very comfortable plus I’m a real ego-maniac and I need applause (I’m only half joking here).
I realised that all my favourite songs I’d written started in my old flat in Leeds. Oh My God, Modern Way, Never Miss A Beat, the chorus of I Predict A Riot, and Suitable. So I decided to spend some time there and write in the mornings in my pyjamas. I wrote two songs, Lucky Stars and Brain Freeze. Brain Freeze is a real departure for me musically because I decided to use chords I’d never used and there’s still one chord in it that I can’t find the name of.
I co-wrote the lyrics with my really good friend Justin Parker (he also co-wrote Video Games with Lana Del Rey and Stay for Rihanna). The words are about division and, vaguely, about escaping to Ibiza too.
“We recorded it in Snap Studios in London, and for a long time the horn part was a pretty cheap sounding synth, Ben the piano player suggested we ask Abi [Harding] from The Zutons to play sax on it. She sent back the part we requested but added the most amazing outro and we were blown away!”
The track is a bold statement of the band’s intent; psychedelic guitars spiral into oblivion with Hodgson’s distorted vocal, stabs of piano, and a driving rhythm section creating this melody-rich opening bow. It’s moreish stuff, which is just as well with plenty more yet to come throughout the year.
Having made Kaiser Chiefs a household name, Nick Hodgson has been a songwriter in high demand. Since leaving the band in 2012, he has co-written for the likes of Dua Lipa, You Me At Six, Duran Duran, George Ezra, and Holly Humberstone, and collaborated on tracks alongside Mark Ronson, Kygo, and Shirley Bassey. Having racked up over 5 million album sales globally, Nick’s now gone right back to where it all started out for him as a teenager, launching something completely new from the grassroots up.
