VIJF NL SHOWS IN OKTOBER 2024 (MAASTRICHT, ENSCHEDE, GRONINGEN EN UTRECHT)

Ruim vier jaar later dan oorspronkelijk gepland gaat het dan toch gebeuren: de iconische Schotse zanger-songwriter-muzikant Fish komt in oktober naar Europa voor 24 shows tijdens zijn ‘Road To The Isles 2024-2025’-tournee. De euforie over het vooruitzicht om deze levende legende eindelijk weer live aan het werk te kunnen zien wordt echter wel enigszins overschaduwd door het nieuws dat dit tevens zijn definitieve afscheidstournee is…

Fish en zijn liveband - bestaande uit louter oudgedienden - zullen vijf shows in Nederland geven. De voorverkoop van de tickets start aanstaande vrijdag 2 februari om 10:00 uur via www.fishmusic.scot en via de websites van de respectievelijke poppodia:

LIVE-BAND ‘ROAD TO THE ISLES 2024-2025’ TOUR
Fish: "Nominating a tour as a 'farewell tour' has a certain amount of gravitas. I’m so glad that I have managed to bring together a 'best of' line up of musicians from across my live career to come out on the bus with me on my final sortie out on the road. They're not just highly talented musicians but old friends and co-writers of some of the finest songs I've released in the 35 years as a solo artist. It feels more like a Hollywood movie of veterans getting back together for one final mission rather than a rock and roll tour and the personalities and characters involved will ensure it's going to be fun both on and off stage."
Toetsenist Mickey Simmonds was de belangrijkste co-schrijver van Fish's eerste soloalbums 'Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors' en 'Internal Exile', die beiden door Calum Malcolm zijn geremixt voor een superdeluxe heruitgave in april. Gitarist Robin Boult is sinds 1991 een vaste live-muzikant, co-schrijver en studiosessiemuzikant bij Fish en was betrokken bij de laatste drie albums '13th Star', 'Feast of Consequences' en bij het wereldwijd geprezen afscheidsalbum 'Weltschmerz' uit 2020 dat Fish samen schreef Steve Vantsis.
Steve is op zijn beurt al jaren de belangrijkste steun en toeverlaat van Fish en zal bas spelen tijdens de tour, terwijl drummer Gavin Griffiths terugkeert voor de gerenommeerde en formidabele ritmesectie. De band zal worden uitgebreid met de veelgeprezen achtergrondzangeres Elisabeth Troy Antwi die op een aantal van Fish's albums zong, en met wie hij het duet 'Incomplete' van het album ‘Raingods with Zippos’ uit 1999 deed.
Hoewel de leden van zijn nieuwe tourband nooit eerder samen op het podium stonden, maakten Mickey, Robin en Steve wel al deel uit van een van de meest dynamische line-ups die Fish mee op pad nam tijdens de 'Sunsets on Empire'- tournee van 1997. Fish: “I really didn't want to go out on my farewell tour with a group of strangers or hired guns and only getting to know new people who I'd be saying goodbye to after only a few weeks. The tour is not going to be one of those endless farewell tours that spin round for months and months. I always wanted it relatively concise yet long enough to go out and enjoy being on stage, and on the road, before it got to be tiring and exhausting. It has to be a fun affair and this band ticks all the boxes on every level. Everyone in the line-up has at some point or another been in the studio or on the road with me performing songs from across the solo catalogue and beyond.”
Hij vervolgt: “I don't want to be sticking to the same setlist every night and there are so many potential songs for the set we all felt that having a moveable feast was the way forward. We are rehearsing around 25 -30 songs to give us enough material to bring in and out of the set when we want, which keeps it interesting and fun for us as well as the fans who won't know what songs will be played on the night they come to. The setlist will be covering 12 solo albums and of course there will be material from my time with Marillion. There's a few epics from that time that I'd be remiss if I ignored and to be honest, I'm actually looking forward to revisiting a couple of those tracks. The band members have all played them at one time or another and are all more than capable of delivering fantastic renditions across the board. It's going to be actually quite exciting revisiting a lot of the material with this historical line-up."
De ‘Road to the Isles’-tour is geïnspireerd op het feit dat Fish en zijn vrouw Simone zich later dit jaar zullen terugtrekken in een boerderij die ze hebben overgenomen op een ruig eiland in de Outer Hebrides ten noordwesten van Schotland. Ze verhuizen eind dit jaar definitief naar deze Western Isles (in het Schots: Na h-Eileanan an Iar).
Fish verkoopt in mei zijn voormalige opnamestudio het huis in Haddington, East Lothian, waar hij woonde sinds hij Marillion in 1988 verliet: “It's going to be sad in some ways to leave East Lothian after so many years and having written, recorded and created so much here at the Studio. All my solo albums apart from 'Vigil' were recorded in this building. It was a strange feeling recently sifting through the demo material for the 2024 'Vigil' and ‘Internal' re-releases and listening to the early versions of those songs that were written here soon after I moved to Haddington. I'll be leaving behind a lot of memories in the house and the garden where I've lived since 1988 and it will always hold a special place in my life. The croft however is a completely new adventure and one my wife and I are excitedly looking forward to.”

‘ROAD TO THE ISLES’-TOURNEE 2024-2025
De 24-daagse Europese etappe van de tour begint op 2 oktober 2024 in Dudelange (LUX) en doorkruist vijf shows in Nederland, zeven in Duitsland, vier in Polen, twee in Noorwegen, twee in Zweden en een show in Denemarken, Zwitserland en Oostenrijk. Na een korte pauze van de Europese tournee begint Fish aan de dertiendaagse Britse etappe van de UK tour, die start in Corn Exchange, Haddington (nabij Edinburgh) op 19 februari 2025 en eindigt met een epische aller-, aller- allerlaatste show ooit in de Glasgow O2 Academy op zondag 9 maart 2025.
Fish: “There's a great sense of circles being closed with all aspects of the tour and the album releases this year and I'm enjoying the sense of completion that it brings to this current stage in my life as I literally move on to new pastures. It's a wonderful feeling."

FISH – KORTE BIO
Derek William Dick uit Edinburgh, Schotland (geboren op 25 april 1958) werd bekend als zanger en songtekstschrijver Fish van de neo-progressieve rockgroep Marillion. Hiermee schreef hij in de jaren tachtig van de vorige eeuw geschiedenis, getuige het mega-succes van de albums ‘Script For A Jester’s Tear’, ‘Fugazi’, ‘Misplaced Childhood’ en ‘Clutching At Straws’. Vooral de hits ‘Kayleigh’ en ‘Lavender’, afkomstig van ‘Misplaced Childhood’ (1985), zingt iedereen nog altijd luidkeels mee.
Fish’ eigen songs zijn geen lichte kost. De trotse Schot ziet zichzelf eigenlijk meer als schrijver dan als muzikant of zanger, en de songs die hij schrijft zijn niet zelden een weerslag van zijn dagelijkse observaties van de maatschappij. De wereld staat permanent in brand en leidt daardoor volgens Fish tot angst, eenzaamheid en depressies. Het is vooral ook daarom dat het werken in zijn grote tuin in Schotland hem de broodnodige rust en relativering brengt. Vandaag de dag is hij dan ook een volleerd hovenier-tuinier die met het verbouwen van groente en fruit in zijn eigen levensonderhoud voorziet.
