The New Pornographers’ highly anticipated new album The Former Site Of is due March 27 on Merge Records; in celebration of the upcoming release the band is debuting the album track “Votive” alongside a new video

Built around the sound of frontperson A.C. Newman’s mandolin, “Votive” builds from an atmospheric synth and keyboard opening into a wide-open jam. The video, animated by Michael Arthur, draws on the imagery of Newman’s lyrics alongside his and keyboardist/vocalist Kathryn Calder’s hooky refrain, “I didn’t see you there.”

On The Former Site Of, the tenth studio album from the acclaimed supergroup, ten short stories of people at personal and societal extremes are collected as meticulously crafted pop songs. The record was first crafted by Newman in his home studio before being brought to the band, composed of A.C. Newman, Kathryn Calder, Neko Case, John Collins andTodd Fancey. The band is joined for the first time by storied session drummer Charley Drayton (Divinyls, The Rolling Stones, Fiona Apple). Josh Wells (Destroyer, Black Mountain) will join as the touring drummer for the band’s upcoming dates in the Spring.

Of the making of the album, Newman shares, “Having time in my studio really opened things up. I don’t like wasting my bandmates’ time, and always felt guilty when I’d give them a song, ask them to do something, then completely change the song and ask them to do it again. Now I can get the skeleton of a song together first—just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible—before bringing it to the band and running from there.”

In addition to “Votive,” the album features the group’s most recent single, “Ballad Of The Last Payphone,” which is available as a limited 7-inch vinyl first release and is the subject of acclaim from Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, Stereogumand more. Paste named it one of their Best New Songs, raving that “‘Ballad Of The Last Payphone’ hits a different kind of nerve. Less giddy power-pop, more slow-burn meditation, the track leans into melancholy with acoustic strums, ghostly pedal steel, and vocals that swirl like a memory you can’t quite shake.”

The New Pornographers have released nine studio albums, including their classic debut, Mass Romantic, reissued in 2021 to celebrate its 21st anniversary. Their latest, 2023’s Continue as a Guest, marked their debut for Merge Records; New York Magazine lauded, “The New Pornographers are a massive unit bursting with unique and intersecting talents…the band’s ninth album serves another helping of their signature dish,” while Brooklyn Vegan named it “one of The New Pornographers’ most lush albums, thick with synthesizers and horns and harmonies…their unique chemistry is as distinct and appealing as ever.”

Two legendary, singular bands in their own right, Japan's OOIOO and Providence, Rhode Island's Lightning Bolt, have announced a split LP THE HORIZON SPIRALS / THE HORIZON VIRAL, out Apr. 24th. Along with the album's announcement, Lightning Bolt have shared the track "CLOUD CORE," a dizzying piece of pummeling breakneck percussion and timeless riffing that showcases how relentless the duo’s energy remains. OOIOO have also announced a rare show at Open Melody Festival in Los Angeles on April 4th – more dates forthcoming.

Lightning Bolt drummer/vocalist Brian Chippendale explains their approach to the track and their side of the LP: “OOIOO set the tone with THE HORIZON SPIRAL but we didn’t really roll with the spiral theme. We’re more Viral than Spiral though they both can dump you in a rabbit hole and we definitely like rabbit holes.”

THE HORIZON SPIRALS, composed of OOIOO’s gamelan-infused sagas “THE HORIZON” and “Gamel BE SURE TO SPIRAL” demonstrates the boundless scope of OOIOO’s music. YoshimiO explains a core contrast between these pieces and 2014’s Gamel lays in the physical materials used: “Back then in Bali, bronze-keyed gamelan were mainstream, and GAMEL uses bronze. "My sister slept is een belangrijk nummer voor Frie en mij. Allebei hebben we een broer of zus verloren, en dit nummer klikte vanaf de ruwe demo's samen. Daarom hebben we ervoor gekozen om het puur te houden en niets toe te voegen. Alleen haar stem en mijn gitaar. We hebben het nummer opgenomen tijdens een nachtelijke opnamesessie in North Garden Studio's, met micro's die rondom waren opgesteld om elke zucht of beweging op te nemen. Intiem en dicht op de huid. Niemand in de studio, behalve altvioliste Esther Coorevits die voor de gelegenheid aan de mengtafel plaatsnam. Alleen mensen die we echt kennen en vertrouwen. Je hoort Frie en mij via de muziek communiceren en zo in het moment opgaan dat we op het punt staan om te breken. Toen we de laatste noot speelden en met tranen in de ogen opkeken, zagen we Esther vanuit de controlekamer. Meteen voelden we dat we de juiste take hadden opgenomen.

De video werd gemaakt door mijn broer, filmmaker Hannes Bruyneel. Samen doken we in het video-archief van onze ouders op zoek naar beelden van onze zus, beelden die dertig jaar lang verborgen zijn gebleven. Ook hier kozen we voor traagheid. Geen snelle montage om vluchtige kijkers te lokken, maar een eerlijk portret van een gezin dan naïef en onvoorbereid het leven omarmt."

Lonely Days Will Come is de vierde single uit Salt Moon City — het debuutalbum van de Belgische artiest Iskander Moon — en verkent het thema van eenzaamheid vanuit een genuanceerd en contemplatief perspectief. In plaats van een gemis te benadrukken, benadert het nummer solitude als een ruimte voor reflectie en zelfinzicht.

Na de warm onthaalde EP Are You Lost Here? (2024) en de debuutsingle Saturday Silence – vorig jaar een vaste waarde op de Belgische radio – opent Iskander Moon met dit debuutalbum nieuwe muzikale horizonten. Op Salt Moon City verweeft Moon de persoonlijke, introspectieve songwriting van artiesten als Sufjan Stevens en Paolo Nutini met de uitgestrekte grandeur van Coldplay en subtiele hints naar de harmonische rijkdom van Bach en Debussy.
Waar zijn debuut-EP aanvoelde als een persoonlijke dagboeknotitie, voelt dit album als een filmische, widescreen-versie. Paradise City 2026 onthult eerste 26 namen voor editie 2026

De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Floating Points, Job Jobse en Modeselektor

Paradise City zet een volgende stap richting zomer 2026. Met de aankondiging van de eerste 26 artiesten krijgt de elfde editie van het festival stilaan vorm. Van 26 tot en met 28 juni 2026 keert Paradise City Festival terug naar het groene kasteeldomein van Kasteel Ribaucourt, waar elektronische muziek, aandacht voor de ecologische voetafdruk en een onvergetelijke beleving opnieuw samenvloeien.
Eerste artiesten aangekondigd.
Onder de eerste 26 aangekondigde artiesten bevinden zich enkele grote iconen uit de dance scene. Richie Hawtin, een van de oorspronkelijke architecten van techno, staat naast Modeselektor, de Berlijnse buitenbeentjes die clubmuziek al jaren voorbij haar grenzen duwen. Doorheen de line-up loopt een duidelijke lijn van diepte en geduld. Artiesten als Jane Fitz & Marco Shuttle, ZIP, CARISTA, Ogazon, Map.ache (live) en Lola Haro staan bekend om hun lang uitgesponnen sets en subtiele opbouw die een dansvloer langzaam meevoeren, ver voorbij het voor de hand liggende.
Wie zich meer aangetrokken voelt tot snellere, euforische vormen van house en techno, vindt zijn ding bij DJ HEARTSTRING, Helena Lauwaert, Benwal en Malugi, allemaal garant voor energieke sets gedreven door emotie en momentum. En na een memorabele afsluiter twee jaar geleden keert Job Jobse terug naar de Forest Stage, klaar om tijd, spanning en collectieve ontlading opnieuw diep de nacht in te rekken.
Ook de UK underground is sterk vertegenwoordigd: Palms Trax en Floating Points brengen platenkoffers vol house, breaks en jazzy uitstapjes, terwijl Interplanetary Criminal de nieuwe golf van UK garage vertegenwoordigt. Live performance speelt eveneens een centrale rol. Met Takuya Nakamura, Octo Octa, Steffi & Virginia en Mind Enterprises krijgt het programma extra gelaagdheid en onvoorspelbaarheid via hybride live-sets.
Tot slot weerspiegelen ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U en Aayna een nieuwe generatie artiesten waarvan de internationale opmars zich evenzeer online als op de dansvloer afspeelt. Tegelijk komen De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig opnieuw samen voor een zeldzame passage, met hun onmiskenbare, eigenzinnige energie in de kasteeltuinen.

After playing over 100 shows around the world this past year, the duo will also be taking the stage at NYC's Governor's Ball in June alongside A$AP ROCKY and Lorde.

The announcement follows a run of major live shows, including US arena dates with Tame Impala – earning multiple glowing shout-outs from Kevin Parker, and a backstage visit from Billie Eilish – and an Australian tour which included a huge stadium show with Dom Dolla. The band also sold-out their own headline shows in NYC and LA (which included a surprise on-stage appearance from Beck), and a run of rowdy packed-out shows across the UK and Europe, including three consecutive sold-out nights in London that had thousands of fans on the waiting-list.

The arrival of debut album 'Ö' marks just the latest high-point in a wild journey for the duo, made up of Shanny Wise (vocals) and Jackson Walker Lewis (bass, keys, production). Already one of the most talked-about new artists when they released their 2024 EP 'Baggy$$' – with singles like "Bon Bon" and "Homie Don't Shake" in contention for numerous 'Song of the Summer' accolades – the band have been lauded by the likes of Zane Lowe, Rolling Stone, DAZED, W Mag, New York Times, Pitchfork, NME, The Face, HERO, NYLON, PAPER, Notion, NY Mag, Flaunt, Office Magazine and many more.

They've gone from playing their first live show at the 200-cap Baby's All Right in 2023 to playing to over 2,000 people in NYC in a single night; opening for LCD Soundsystem as part of their huge 12-night NYC residency at Knockdown Center (with David Bryne coming backstage to meet the band after their set); supporting HAIM at the 20k-capacity Madison Square Gardens, Justice at Red Rocks, and Disclosure and Confidence Man on their respective tours; and maintaining an incredible festival run, playing packed-out sets at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury (a nationally televised set on the BBC), Primavera Sound (Barcelona and Porto - and one of the only acts invited to return in 2026), Outside Lands, Portola and many, many more.

The band have also been asked to soundtrack parties by Celine – where they were handpicked by Hedi Slimane – the opening of Louis Vuitton's '100 years in NYC' store in Manhattan (alongside Mike D of Beastie Boys), DJ'ing Charli XCX's private Coachella afterparty and more recently the official Caught Steeling afterparty, which had notable attendees dancing on the couches into the early hours.
