CASPAR AUWERKERKEN Shares Brand New Single "Two Ravens"

9 December Live @ Ancienne Belgique Brussels (Support Portland)
Two Ravens - Single by Caspar Auwerkerken | Spotify

It's been a while in the making, but today we're proud to unveil Caspar Auwerkerken's brand new single. "Two Ravens" is the first single since Caspar's warmly received debut EP "Abloom" (2023) and calls in a new chapter for the talented singer-songwriter. Two Ravens is produced and mixed by Bert Vliegen (Whispering Sons, Teen Creeps, Sophia) and has been recorded in the studio of the Muziekgieterij in Maastricht, where Caspar Auwerkerken is artist in residence, just like he is artist in residence at Het Depot in Leuven.

For those who are not yet familiar with his work, Caspar's music can best be described as 'melancholic indie-folk with a cinematic touch, carried by a unique voice and stripped-down arrangements.' Think of the atmosphere of Sophia, Thom Yorke and Tamino – yet marked by a distinctive, tangible vulnerability.
The first solo versions of "Two Ravens" date back to autumn 2019 but the song only came together 5 years later, in the spring of 2024. After a long search, Caspar and his band found the right intensity and structure to make it truly work. That breakthrough is also reflected in the way the song is recorded: "Our goal was to capture the energy of a live performance. The four of us played together in one room, with almost no overdubs or added production—just immersing ourselves in the atmosphere the song demanded." As a reference for the song he calls out bands like dEUS, Radiohead, Amen Dunes and MJ Lenderman.

Common themes in Caspar's music are, often critical, reflections on modern world and the complex and dual relationship with nature. Taking inspiration from a broad range of fields such as poetry, philosophy, art, film and literature. Currently studying philosophy, Caspar's beliefs on society, nature and issues as climate change clearly seep through his music and lyrics.

Two Ravens, however, stands out as one of the few songs where this theme is less prominent. Lyrically, it began as a song about losing someone—and, through that loss, also losing a part of oneself. Over time, though, its meaning has evolved. The lyrics can now also be interpreted as expressing a loss of connection with one's inner nature—and, by extension, the environment around us—and the journey of rebuilding one's sense of self.
