Aäron Koch has never had much of a soft spot for duets. 'Echoes', it turns out, had other ideas.
The song has been following him around for years. An early demo never quite settled into place, and when Koch was working on his debut album 'For Once', he dismantled the original arrangement and rebuilt it as 'Longing'. It took returning to that first recording years later for another possibility to reveal itself. Perhaps the song hadn't needed to be rearranged at all. Perhaps it had simply been missing another voice.
Koch found it in Geike Arnaert. He had known Geike for some time and had long admired the particular tension in her singing: a voice that can sound exposed and fragile one moment, then quietly commanding the next. When he sent her the old demo, her answer came back almost immediately: "I'm in."
'Echoes' stays close to that original, shadowy atmosphere. It moves patiently, leaving plenty of air around both singers while a quiet unease simmers underneath. Rather than trading lines in the manner of a conventional duet, Koch and Geike circle around each other. Their voices meet, separate and blur at the edges, giving a song about longing and connection its elusive pull.

Orson Claeys — WHAT A NIGHT (feat. IAMOMNI)
OTHELLO is the debut album by pianist and composer Orson Claeys. Bringing together influences from jazz, hip-hop, urban culture, and everyday life, the record offers the clearest portrait yet of an artist shaped as much by the worlds around him as by music itself.
The title refers to Claeys' full name, Orson Dwight Othello Claeys, and reflects the album's central concern: identity. Throughout its eleven compositions, personal experiences, cultural influences, and artistic inspirations converge into a body of work that seeks to understand how an artist is formed, both within and beyond music. Musically, it builds on jazz, strongly intertwined with hip-hop, contemporary culture, and ideas beyond traditional musical frameworks. For Orson, music is not a fixed genre, but an open and evolving form of expression. That philosophy is introduced from the very first moments through the voice of one of jazz's most respected musicians and educators, Dr. Marshall Hawkins.
Claeys first encountered a conversation between John Daversa and Dr. Marshall Hawkins on The John Daversa Podcast through a short clip on social media and was immediately struck by the way Hawkins spoke about music, love, and life. The spoken-word excerpt that opens "INTRO / L.O.V.E." is drawn from that conversation, whose reflections closely echoed the ideas that had shaped Orson's artistic vision and inspired him to reach out about using it on the record.
Before granting permission, Hawkins asked to meet Orson to learn more about the project and its artistic vision. The conversation, shaped by Hawkins' lifelong experience as both a performer alongside artists such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, and Pharoah Sanders, and as a dedicated educator and mentor, left a lasting impression. Convinced by the vision behind the project, Hawkins gave his blessing to use the recording, allowing his voice to introduce the listener as a reflection on connection, humanity, and the ideas that underpin the album as a whole.
This broad perspective continues in a series of carefully chosen collaborations. A track like "WHAT A NIGHT" first took shape during a studio session with indie-soul singer Sevens, whose harmonic ideas laid the foundation for the track. As the composition evolved, Claeys felt it called for a stronger hip-hop voice. Through a recommendation from Mixmonster Menno of STUFF., he was introduced to L.A. rapper IAMOMNI, whose contribution brought exactly the energy and perspective the track needed. The result unfolds like a late-night journey through Los Angeles, with IAMOMNI's contribution adding a sense of movement, character, and place.
Elsewhere, "SPIRAL", featuring Belgo-Brazilian vocalist Helena Casella, grew out of a long-standing mutual admiration. Conceived as a meeting point between R&B and jazz, the composition balances the groove and emotional depth of the former with the improvisational spirit and spontaneity of the latter. The collaboration developed naturally from the outset, with Casella instinctively understanding the atmosphere Claeys envisioned while enriching the music with her own warmth and nuance.
A long-held ambition materializes on "SHADOWBOXING", where Claeys is joined by drummer, producer, and one of the key figures in contemporary Belgian jazz, Lander Gyselinck. Gyselinck's work, particularly his collaboration with Zwangere Guy on Pourriture Noble, was instrumental in showing him how the language of hip-hop could coexist naturally with jazz, an idea that runs throughout the music. Drawing inspiration from boxing, the track is a musical equivalent of a fighter's walk towards the ring: focused, intense, and driven by the sense of anticipation that precedes stepping into the fight.
After this heightened intensity, the record gradually moves toward its closing statement. "OUTRO / HANIN", featuring oud player Akram Ben Romdhane, a longtime collaborator whose playing forms a natural bridge between his previous work and the broader musical landscape he's exploring these days. The title references the Tunisian Arabic word hanin, meaning "nostalgia", a fitting conclusion to a work deeply concerned with memory, identity, and personal history.
Beyond music itself, the album is informed by a wider cultural landscape. Urban culture, with its visual language, creative independence, and sense of community, forms an important backdrop. Sport also plays a significant role, particularly boxing and skateboarding, whose emphasis on discipline, focus, and resilience mirrors his own creative process. Rather than being treated as separate influences, these worlds coexist without hierarchy, reflecting an artistic vision that resists rigid boundaries and allows different disciplines, communities, and experiences to inform one another.

One World Radio broadcasts from De Rode Hoed on Wednesday, October 21, Thursday, October 22, and Friday, October 23, going live each day from 12:00. Artists like Armin van Buuren, The Bausa, Kevin de Vries, Miss Monique, Amber Broos, Kölsch, and many more drop by for interviews and short DJ sets, keeping the energy moving through the afternoon. The broadcasts reach listeners well beyond the Amsterdam canals.
The Tomorrowland Store brings an exclusive selection of merchandise to ADE, available only at this location during the event. A bar with Solo Vida on the menu gives visitors a place to pause and connect along the way. The Expo is open from Wednesday, October 21 through Saturday, October 24, with doors opening at 10:00 each day. On Wednesday, the Expo closes at 17:00; from Thursday through Saturday, it runs until 20:00. Entry is free. Het leven wordt alsmaar duurder en dat weegt eveneens door op het budget van jongeren. In tijden dat ticketprijzen alsmaar duurder worden, kiest Muziekcentrum Goedleven voor de omgekeerde richting door ze te verlagen.
Wie jonger is dan 25 jaar, kan voortaan naar alle concerten aan de prijs van 12 euro. Op deze manier wil Muziekcentrum Goedleven jongeren de kans geven om volop te genieten van concerten tegen betaalbare lage ticketprijzen.

ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) kondigt achttien Ierse acts aan voor Eurosonic, waaronder F3miii, THEATRE en Esmeralda Road. Eerder dit jaar maakte ESNS bekend dat Ierland een centrale plek krijgt op de editie van 2027. Ieder jaar zet het festival de meest urgente opkomende acts uit één Europees land in de spotlight, om de veelzijdigheid van Europees talent te laten zien. Elk jaar in januari verandert Groningen in het kloppende hart van de Europese muziekindustrie, wanneer
ESNS haar showcasefestival en muziekconferentie organiseert. Van woensdag tot en met vrijdag zijn tijdens Eurosonic opkomende acts uit Europa op podia in de binnenstad te zien. De zaterdag staat in het teken Noorderslag, al sinds 1986 de graadmeter voor de Nederlandse popmuziek. Alleen de meest veelbelovende Europese en Nederlandse artiesten krijgen hier de kans zich te presenteren aan muziekliefhebbers en professionals.
Het hele jaar door ondersteunt ESNS talent via initiatieven zoals de European Talent Exchange en reikt het belangrijke prijzen uit, waaronder de Music Moves Europe Awards, de European Festival Awards en de Popprijs. De Gents-Beverse Simon Le Ma bracht net zijn nieuwe album Get Sweaty uit, een dansbaar plaatje dat stinkt naar funk, Motown en oudeventenzweet. Daarin maakt de muzikant en songschrijver komaf met spoken uit het verleden en zoekt hij zijn heil in een nieuwe religie: Motown funk. Get Sweaty werd opgenomen en gemixt door Xavier De Clercq (Poolside Studio) en gemasterd door Jimmy Van Rietvelde (Tiny Voices Studio).

Eosine. Een buitenbeentje op ons roster. Met hun geweldige emodreampopprogpunksludgemetalcore, die hondsdolle en rétestrakke band en die razende Len aan de mic. Hun show op Reeperbahn in Hamburg drie weken geleden was de beste die ik tot nu toe van hen zag: ik werd er zelf een beetje emo(core) van. Regan-uit-The-Exorcist-vibes maar dan met gitaren.
Debuutplaat ‘Vicariant Narratives’ verschijnt op 8 januari, maar de komende weken droppen we alvast een paar bommetjes uit die plaat. Te beginnen vandaag met ‘Incantations’, een zeven minuten durende sludgy dreampop-trip en een hoogtepunt op elke Eosineshow.
De albumreleaseshow in de AB Club (5 feb) is bijna uitverkocht. Deze week werd een nieuwe Belgische tour aangekondigd, en volgende week volgen een half dozijn Nederlandse data.

Flip Kowlier news – nieuwe plaat en tour
Ondertussen is de plaat klaar, en de eerste single een feit. Tijd om de baan op te gaan! Ik kan behoorlijk zweverig doen over de magie die ontstaat als je met fijne mensen op een podium samen muziek maakt. Dat gevoel ook nog eens overbrengen naar het publiek, dat is van 't beste. Net daarom kijk ik er enorm hard naar uit. Ondertussen zijn we ongeveer een jaar verder dan toen ik mijn eerste demo's opnam, dus het is hoog tijd. Ik zou het zalig vinden als je eens komt kijken, het gaat goed zijn!
We zijn momenteel ook aan het bekijken naar welke shows we de schilderijen van Katrien kunnen meenemen, die ze gemaakt heeft voor het artwork van deze plaat.

Open'er enters October with another mighty drop of acts for its 2027 edition, with The Chemical Brothers added as Thursday headliners. 25 years after their performance at the festival's inaugural edition, the legendary duo will close Orange Main Stage with their spectacular show.
Also joining the line-up are Ellie Goulding, one of the defining voices of 21-century British pop; Adéla, top of this year's biggest names in global pop, fresh off the release of her debut album, "Prima"; 5 Seconds of Summer, one of Australia's most popular contemporary rock and pop bands; and underscores, bringing together a unique blend of electronic music, hyperpop, dance, indie rock, shoegaze and punk to create her own artistic universe.

UNDERSCORES
Hailing from San Francisco, Filipino-American artist April Harper Grey started making music as underscores in middle school. For years, she released a steady stream of one-offs via SoundCloud, which endeared her to like minded artists and a burgeoning community of fans, but it wasn't until 2017, with the release of EP "skin purifying treatment", that the project stepped out of its solitary origins and began to capture the attention of a much larger audience. In 2021, underscores released the debut album, "fishmonger", written and recorded in that same childhood bedroom amidst the pandemic. She gained even more recognition with "boneyard aka fearmonger", a collection of seven tracks that manages to sound like both the climax of and the morning after the craziest night of your life. In 2023 "Wallsocket", became one of the critics' favourites, and this year's "U" dove deep into the exploration of hyper-pop and dance music, making it to the Top 5 of albums of 2026.
"When people listen to underscores, I want their initial reaction to be, 'This is ridiculous'. But the more they listen to it, they should hear the nuance in it, the heaviness in it, and I hope they connect with it on some kind of emotional level", says April. For nearly twenty years, Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson has played his way around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth, carving out a singular place in contemporary folk music. But his new album ‘Just Beyond Endless Mountain’ - out October 9thon Anti- Records with a stunning cover portrait by legendary photographer Anton Corbijn - quietly turns that perspective on its head. After returning to his native Dalarna in central Sweden a few years ago, Matsson found himself listening to the music he had spent years trying to leave behind: the polskas, the old field recordings and the sounds of the local traditions that had surrounded him since childhood. The result is not a return to the past, but a step into new musical territory. Swedish folk music has reshaped his melodies, his voice, and the way he writes songs.
About halfway through the record, driving guitar & propulsive drumming provide the backdrop for the new single out today, "Deliver Me from Trying", as distorted vocals reveal a message of longing to let go. "When I listened back to it, I thought, 'Yeah... okay. Good job, Kristian. You didn't really know what you were doing there. 'Deliver Me from Trying—just let me stop trying. That line just appeared, and it wasn't until later that I realized what it meant. It says a lot about where I was at."

Dalarna is the place Swedes return to, again and again, to reconnect with their past, for better and for worse. This is where Matsson grew up during the 1980s and '90s, surrounded by fiddlers and folk dancers, timber cabins and flower-clad Midsummer poles. You learned the dances in school, the music too, and every national holiday was celebrated with folk musicians, traditional dress, and the folk games that had been passed down for generations. It is as if the landscape itself had internalized the nation's longing for some primordial refuge—a place to retreat whenever modernity had gone too far and, in the process, taken its own people hostage.
Matsson, however, refused to be captured so easily. He started indie bands, hurled himself across the stage like Iggy Pop, and spent his winters snowboarding. His teenage love of unruly rock gave way to an obsession with American blues and folk music. Then came the breakthrough: extensive tours, festival stages, steadily growing audiences, increasingly ambitious recordings, the move to America, and the constant pendulum swing between performing alone and wanting a full band beside him, both onstage and in the studio. Twenty wild years have passed since he released his first EP.
But something changed when he finally stopped moving. A new chapter began. Dalarna became home in the truest sense. Matsson’s farm became his fortress, and the home studio, that had sometimes stood silent, once again became a place where inspiration could rush in—and where freedom opened new windows. He started a garden, bought shares in a few horses, and picked up an ATV to clear the snow from his driveway. And then he bought even more instruments. The fiddle — an instrument he'd had a complicated relationship with since childhood — found its way back into his life. He picked it up hesitantly but soon became obsessed. Now, he opens his concerts with a polska by Pål Olle of Östbjörka.
"Somewhere along the way I'd developed this immature aversion to the whole cultural inheritance I grew up with,” Matsson explains. “But now I live here again. I've read an incredible amount—not just about the music, but about how people actually lived in the old days. I think that's part of why this record feels more like me than anything I've made before. This album really comes from somewhere."
